Inter-County Match Results Lincolnshire v Leicestershire | A Team :- | Well for the 1st game of the season we were without six regular A team players. Tom Ford, Nicky Parnell, Colin Treadwell, Lee Ross, Dave Wileman & Harry Patel were all unavailable. So we had to call on two players from the B Team to step up to the A. Graham Mott & Neale Bassford came in and although both were very nervy in their 1st frame they both did well in their other frames. Many thanks lads for turning out for us. It just shows our strength in depth throughout our mens squads. Vinny Allen led from the front with four wins, which earned him the m-o-m award. There were three wins for Gavin Lomax, Tem Dixon and Neale Bassford. We won the 1st leg 7-4 but then played awful in the 2nd leg to lose it by 8-3. We found ourselves 16-14 down, but our never say die attitude kicked in and then we won 13 out of the last 14 frames. That keeps our 17 match unbeaten run going, but if we want to make it a hat-trick of National Inter-County titles in Yarmouth in March we will need to play much better than that. And I mean much better !!!!! | | B Team :- | New boy Harry Irwin stepped up from the junior ranks and registered a perfect start to his first senior season with four wins from four. Gaz Tipler also registered a four frame haul while Nick Fegan, Steve Strawhorn, Phil Middleton, Martin White, Scott Taylor and captain Martin Hinchliffe all registered three wins for the team. With the squad places being played for, the pressure is on each and every player to perform. A good result for the first away game of the season places Leicestershire B at the top of the regional tables. Lets keep it going and send out a message to the other teams that we really are the team to beat this season. | | Ladies Team :- | Leicestershire ladies made the long trip to Boston with renewed confidence going into the first match of 2009 under new skipper Kev Smart. Lincolnshire have improved season on season, but we were in high spirits both on and off the table and we came away with a resounding 35-9 win. “I am extremely proud of all the girls for their performances today, the response has been great! I’d also like to credit the reserves, we do have a large squad this year so thanks for your patience this match.” Donna Elliott had some tough frames but battled hard and was delighted to be awarded player of the match. Samantha Biddlecombe, Carolyn Bowkett, Charlene Gibson and Stacie Ackland all weighed in with maximum four wins apiece, while Emma Senior, Karen Wesseldine, Teresa Blair, Julie Tailby and Lucy Keatley-Lill all notched up three from four. We welcomed Michelle Brown to the team, who made her debut despite suffering with ill health, and all the girls would like to take this opportunity to wish you the best of luck for your upcoming England internal trials this weekend | | Junior Team :- | Joe O Connor continued with his great current form. Following his qualification for the England U18 squad earlier this month he boosted the teams scoreline with a maximum four frames from four. Adam Osbourne and Liam Charles also scored three wins, which helped the Leicestershire outfit on their way to the first win of the season. With a large squad of players to start the season manager Harry Sohal is going to spoilt for choice of players. If "Leicestershire Juniors" want to win the league this year then they must punish mistakes and play their strongest squad at each match. | Full scores and more... |
